RE: Never thought I'd lust after a toy hauler...

I've pretty much talked myself into it. Thinking of something like this: http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj202/puckdad/hauler.jpg Just have to convince the DW. She may want a walk around bed, which seems to be hard to find in a TT style hauler. Maybe we'll just have to go to a truck and 5th...;) Mike

RE: Weekend Warrior Purchase

I was just given a quote on one for only about 20% off MSRP...:( Guess I'm looking in the wrong places? Mike

The things you regret most in life are not the things you did, but the things you didn't do. Now go upgrade your TV and get that TH! :B You're not helping!!!!:p

RE: Never thought I'd lust after a toy hauler...

This sucks!! I've been spending every spare moment thinking about toy haulers now. Realized that the 'dream' of a 5th wheel type is probably out of the question (come on lotto!!), but wondering if there's any TT type haulers that you folks can suggest. I've found a Cyclone that looks pretty nice, and I'm sure that's just the tip of the iceberg... Bring it on...:) Mike BTW, I have a Suburban 2500 LT, 8.1L, 4.10, GCWR of 20K (about 1400lbs 'cargo weight' available with the crew onboard)

RE: Never thought I'd lust after a toy hauler...

pctpaul, I've been going over in my head what we could use the back end for, and pretty much all the things you listed were on my list too - imagine a full sized BBQ at the site!! Mmmm, good. The question is, what readily available 3500 dually can actually handle a trailer with a dry hitch of 2900lbs, dry weight of 14,600, and a GVWR of 19000lbs!?! Checked my Dodge brochure, and the highest GCWR is 24,000lbs. Are these haulers into the territory of MDT's? Mike

Never thought I'd lust after a toy hauler...

Just got home from a RV show here in the Vancouver area, and I can't stop thinking about a toy hauler we saw. It's a KZ Inferno 4005 Monster, and wow, what a beauty. We don't own any motorized 'toys' and I usually don't even bother checking out any haulers. I usually say to my DW, "who would want to camp with the smell of gas etc from their motorbikes strapped in the back." I suppose my 5 or so bicycles and the dog kennel could make good use of the space.....must resist!! Too bad we just bought an 8.1L Suburban to tow our measly KZ 289KS...sigh. Well, better head back to the Travel Trailer forum where I belong with the voices in my head screaming, "UPGRADE. UPGRADE." Wish me luck, Mikehttp://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj202/puckdad/inferno.jpg

RE: Questions for KZ & Surveyor owners

Ummm, why not run the furnace off the LP gas? You'll be toasty with no worries. Mike BTW, love our KZ Spree.

RE: Why are KZ's so pricey?

Love the bunkhouse in our 2505 as well and it akes for an amazing amout of storage underneath. Once they hit their teens though the bunks start to get a little snug. I have a 17 year old at 6'4" sleeping on the top bunk of my 289KS - the 84" top bunks was one of the reasons we bought the trailer. With the 3 boys up front and DW and I way at the back it makes for a good set up, although the initial bed-time wrestling/f@rting/general carrying on that they go through every night can sure 'rock the boat.' They're all having a ball together, so that's what it's all about!! Cheers, Mike Oh yeah, we love our Spree.

RE: Yellowstone NP ????

We had 4 nights and 3 days based out of West Yellowstone in early August and we could have used more time. We saw a lot, but I'm certain that we were just scratching the surface. The drive back to West Yellowstone got a bit redundant, but after checking out the paved parking lot campground at Fishing Bridge, I'm glad we were at Grizzly. When you head to the Mammoth part of the park, make sure you drive about 1-2 miles north of the 'town' and you'll find Boiling River. It's a spot where the hot springs empty into a fast moving river (not sure the name of it) and makes for a very nice place to take a dip. My wife remembered it from when she went with her parents 30 years ago. Look for small parking lots on each side of the road and take the 10 minute hike - definitely worth it, and not well advertised (which is a good thing.) Cheers, Mike

RE: Found our dream TT - Need your help selecting new TV.

We have an '01 Suburban 2500 8.1L 4.10 4X4 pulling our KZ 289KS. It does it with absolute ease, as our trailer has a GVWR of 7000lbs (probably 6500lbs loaded). We had a Ram 1500 Quad 4.7L that 'did the job,' but I was a bit worried about the long term longevity of the truck. If you can find a 2500 'burb or Yukon you'll be happy with it. We have 3 boys and a dog, so the ability to give them their own space is very nice indeed. That said, we almost pulled the trigger on a MegaCab, and if the salesman hadn't started the negotiations with the wrong 'sticker sheet,' we probably would be in it right now. So, if that hasn't further confused you, then I don't know what will!!:W Enjoy the new trailer!! Good choice, BTW. Mike

RE: Tires for 'Burb 2500 - 245 or 265's?

Thanks for all the info folks. 'Burbman, we have the same truck!! Except for the beer cooler front rack...hmmm, "Honey, we need to get a front receiver." Still haven't got new tires, but I did determine that I have aftermarket 8" rims with the Nokian Vaativa 265's. I also have the 4.10's. Calling around to different tire shops has further muddled the picture. One guy says that the bigger tires are better for braking, stability etc while the next guy says that I'd better go with stocks. Anyway, any opinions on Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armours or BF Goodrich All-Terrains? I had BF Long Trails on my Ram and they seemed like a good wearing tire, and I'm not sure if the All-Terrains would be too aggressive for my 'highway queen' 'Burb. Mike

Milestar tires - what to do?

Hey folks, I had noticed a small crack on the sidewall on 1 of my Milestar M-108 tires and contacted them a couple of weeks ago to see if they were on the recall list. They replied that they were not, but if I sent pics of the tire(s) in question they would determine if they'd send replacement(s). I've had the trailer for a little over a year and am wondering if the single crack is a sign of things to come (read a few posts here on the subject)? Well, today I received and email from them with the following: "Our Office can offer you with NO Charge Replacement Tires, to replace out the tires you are experiencing problems with. The tires would arrive to you within 3-5 business days..." Seems like a bit of a different offer than the original one. They asked for my shipping address, # of tires req'd, and phone #. Well, I'm thinking that I'll respond saying that it's actually only the one tire (the dealer swapped it out with the spare when I had it in for service) that's showing any issues at this time, but I'm a bit concerned that the remaining ones could become problems too. Any thoughts? Mike Oh yeah, "Scrap those tires and buy new ones" isn't really in the cards at the moment.

RE: Anybody Seen the New 2009 K-Z Sportsman Color?

Saw one a few days ago when I was picking up my unit. I kind of like it as it's a bit different than 'all the rest.' This pic seems a bit lighter than I remember it being.http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj202/puckdad/sportsman.jpg Cheers, Mike

RE: such a thing as "too big" for a fiver?

"digging trenches to divert the water...." AAAH, gotta' love BC camping. I just did that with our TT over the Labour Day weekend at Golden Ears to keep the "flow" away from our under-awning mats, so don't think it'll be completely over with a new 5th.;) My TT with the rear slide out is 35', and I have as of yet come across a campground that couldn't accomodate us - just make sure when you book you tell them what size your rig is. It's worked for us with both private and Provincial sites. Good on ya' to have the forethought to: A) get what you want/need, and B) get a TV afterwards to handle it. Some aren't that wise....like me:R It's all good now though!! Sounds like you're going to end up a very happy camper!! Mike BTW, are you going to check out the Snowbird RV show at Tradex next week? A great place to check out tons of units.

RE: Best place (price) to buy a KZ Spree

With the Snowbird RV show coming up, you're not going to get any better deals than Get-Away will offer on a Spree. Just ask for their Show price now. We bought our Spree from them last year and ended up about $3K below their MSRP. You're also not going to find any "Wholesaler/Direct" outfit that carries KZ - I looked around after we bought ours and came up empty. I found a dealer in Washington (I believe they advertise on this site) and they were more expensive than Get-Away - go figger'? We also liked the Jayco 254, but they (you know, the dealer in your neighbourhood) were unwilling to move on price at all. To be honest, we liked the Spree better anyway. Good luck, and let us know what you end up with!! Mike I was at Get-away on Friday after work talking to a salesman and he did say I could get the 210 for about 23,000 (25,000LX package). I have a dealer in Seattle that will sell a 254 for 19,000US (about 20,300 CDN). What model Spree do you have? We have the 289KS. Last year the best Travelland would do for a 254 was 22,500ish, so the deal you found on that one sounds pretty good. I'm thinking you could probably work them a bit more on the Spree 210 if that's the one your hoping to get. Maybe they'd do better on the 245 or 255KS they have? Heck, why not go for the gusto and go for the 289!!:W Mike

Tires for 'Burb 2500 - 245 or 265's?

Hi there, Looks like the '01 Burb I recently picked up is going to require some new meats. It currently has LT265/75R16/E Nokians. Truck is spec'd for LT245/75R16/E's - Costco won't deviate from this, the buggers. Anyway, I cannot confirm whether the previous owner had the speedo adjusted for the bigger tires, and am wondering what I'm going to lose by reverting back to the stock size, besides the, "Dad, those tires on it look so cool." This is strictly our tow vehicle and will only be a highway queen - no off-roading here. Any input is appreciated, Mike

RE: Water pump on only when faucet open??

Just got home from work and checked it out again. Tried the outside shower to get water in the lines and pump acted as reported. Opened pressure relief valve on HW heater and tried inside sink faucets and VOILA, back to the way I remembered it. Water runs for a few seconds, pump comes on, close faucet, and pump stops. Try faucet again and the cycle repeats. Hopefully one less thing to thing about this weekend. Discovered the pump is located under the jack-knife sofa, so not sure how easy it'll be to access the pump etc. Thanks folks!! Mike

Thanks everyone. I'll open all the faucets in sequence tomorrow. Just a newbie here with a keen ear for "new sounds." HaHa. Mike
